About Peter Nixon
Peter Nixon has photographed horses for over 25 years. Since 2013 he has been Horse & Hound's main freelance photographer, covering every discipline and shooting features for the magazine. The role has taken him to every major championship of the past decade, including the Olympic Games, World and European Championships, and the leading four-star and five-star events across the UK and Europe. In 2026 he won the Silver Camera, presented at the FEI World Championships in Aachen for the best international equestrian sports photo of the year (pictured, photo: ALRV/Andreas Steindl). His winning cross-country image was chosen from around 130 entries.
His work spans eventing, dressage, showjumping, showing, carriage driving, polo, point-to-point and working horses. Whether it's a pre-novice at a local event or a gold medal round, he brings the same eye for timing, movement and the partnership between horse and rider. At the Royal Windsor Horse Show, he works in the private grounds of Windsor Castle, one of the most remarkable venues in equestrian sport.

Peter's early career was shaped by his friend and mentor, equine photographer Kit Houghton.
Away from competition, he also photographs farming, country pursuits and dogs. With drone photography too, he covers every angle, from ground level to a bird's-eye view.
